When looking at the differences between cloud backup, cloud storage, file sync and sharing, what is the most important difference? The difference between cloud storage and cloud storage is often confused. Understanding how file syncing and sharing are connected complicates matters further. Here’s what you need to know.

Although data is backed up to the cloud, most services keep the most recent backups on-site for faster recovery. An MSP can provide services from its own cloud network or from a public service provider such as Alibaba, AWS, Azure, Google or Tencent.
What Is The Cloud?
Some public cloud providers have their own backup services. AWS has a backup service that replicates the data an organization stores in the AWS cloud. It is limited to data stored in the AWS cloud for elastic block storage, elastic file storage, and S3 object storage. Azure offers Microsoft Azure Backup, which is limited to backing up Windows servers, Linux servers, and Hyper-V. Both of these services are simple and require self-service backup and restore.
There are thousands of MSPs offering BaaS today, but not all services back everything up. Many of these services are based on popular backup software such as Commvault and Veeam. Others are based on cloud-specific backup software such as Acronis, Asigra, Axcient, Barracuda Networks Intronis Backup, and Druva. Some MSP BaaS are dedicated to applications. Salesforce has a BaaS option that only works with Salesforce. Microsoft Office 365 does not actually back up user data, but replicates it between data centers. They will also retain a customer’s seat information for up to 90 days after the customer stops paying for that seat. These are not the only ones. Any price comparison between MSPs should ensure that the comparison is for the same data and services.
BaaS MSPs generally offer implementation, operations, management, troubleshooting, and most importantly recovery professional services as part of their services. As mentioned earlier, some MSPs are self-service only.

BaaS subscription licenses map from $0.05 per GB to $1.50 per GB.
